Anyway, I came to like Mariah because of her voice--at first. Before watching Glitter, her very first movie, I'm not really interested with her. Sure I like some of her song but then, for me she's just like every other singers out there. But after watching Glitter I was like: "Gosh, this girl has the Voice." (Many writers call her The Voice). I was captivated by it. Then I started listening to her song, which increased my liking of her.
But her voice is not the only thing that made me a fan. After listening to her song, I started reading about her. I've learned that she wrote all of her songs (excepting covers). For me that's something. A fair few singers write their own songs. She also wrote song for other singers. Some of her songs, those which were not released as a single, are, I think, way too "emo." Like Petals from the Rainbow album:

So many I considered closest to me
Turned on a dime and sold me out dutifully.
Although that knife was chipping away at me
They turned their eyes away and went home to sleep
She put so much feelings in her songs that no one can even relate to it. But what amazes me most is her sense of hope. In that same song:

This made think that there is nothing in this world that we can't over come. That's another thing that I like about Mariah: she inspires me to be strong. "A lot of people are singing about how screwed up the world is, and I don't think that everybody wants to hear about that all the time," she said. She sings of her struggles but at the end she sings about how strong Hope can be. She also believes that when everyone turned against you, there is still someone who will always be with you: yourself --and God.
It seems as though I've always been,
somebody outside looking in,
well, here I am for all of them to bleed,
but they can't take my heart from me,
and they can't bring me to my knees,
they'll never know the real me.
--Looking in, Daydream 1995
No, they can't take this precious love
I'll always have inside me
Certainly the Lord will guide me
Where I need to go.

Mariah suffered so many things in life. Thing that especially devastated her was the death of her father Alfred Roy Carey. She wrote so many songs for his father.
Father, thanks for reaching out and lovingly,
saying that you've always been proud of me,
I needed to feel that so desperately,
you're always alive inside of me.
--Sunflowers for Alfred Roy, Charmbracelet 2002
Another thing Mariah is that whoever you are, you have a place in this world. During her childhood, when racial discrimination is still existent in America, she doesn't know where to "fit in." But her multi-racial decent didn't stop her for making a place for herself in this world. She made the world accept what she is and made us all see that no matter what other people say about you, about the color of you skin, or about the way you dress, you have a place in this world and you'll fit in no matter what.
